Becoming an Umpire

Courses

We support a range of courses for people wanting to become an cricket umpire in Tasmania.

1. Community Accreditation

This course is designed for:

  • Those interested in becoming cricket umpires on a regular basis for the first time.
  • Anyone wishing to expand their knowledge of the game.
  • This accreditation will allow you to umpire in competitive junior and senior community level matches as well as Premier Cricket.

Modules:

  • Online component: A knowledge-based section completed via Learning Platform (1 hour of self-paced learning)
  • Practical component: Covers on-field technique and application of the knowledge gained from the online learning. Also known as Law workshops and will be offered as hybrid option with the practical component offered at the home of Tasmanian Cricket - Ninja Stadium.
  • Once both sessions are completed you will be granted Community Officiating Accreditation!
  • Cost: Free (Cricket Tasmania will supply a discount code to cover the cost of the course - $40)

2. Representative Officiating

This course is designed for:

  • Those wishing to umpire at higher grades of Premier Cricket level and beyond.
  • We suggest 1-2 years’ experience umpiring at Junior /lower grades of Premier Cricket or Community Cricket before undertaking this course.

 

Modules:

  • Online Component: A knowledge-based section completed via Learning Platform (2-3 hours of self-paced learning)
  • Practical component: attendance at Laws Workshops held in August and any other relevant assessment during the year.
  • Cost: $50 (full cost $100)
    • Cricket Tasmania will supply a discount code for half the cost of the online component ($50), so you will only pay the remaining $50.

3. Re-Accreditation

The reaccreditation process is completed every four years via an online learning course and is undertaken for the level of accreditation you hold.

All accredited Umpires are required to complete the following steps:

  • Send a copy of your certification/proof of re-accreditation to matchofficials@crickettas.com.au for approval
