Cricket Tasmania has agreed to a landmark five-year partnership with Australian technology company Firmus that will deliver more than $1 million in direct investment into community cricket initiatives across Tasmania.
The partnership combines support for Tasmania's elite cricket programs with one of the largest community cricket funding commitments in Cricket Tasmania's history, creating new opportunities for participation and supporting community development across the state.
As part of the agreement, Firmus will become Principal Partner of the Tasmanian Tigers and Major Partner of the Hobart Hurricanes. The Firmus brand will feature on the front of playing shirts across all Tigers programs, as well as the chest of playing shirts across both the WBBL and BBL programs.
Founded in Tasmania, Firmus has maintained strong ties to the state throughout its growth and sees the partnership as an opportunity to invest back into the communities that continue to support its success.
Cricket Tasmania CEO Dominic Baker said the partnership represented a huge investment in the future of cricket across Tasmania.
“This is an incredibly significant partnership for Cricket Tasmania, not only because of Firmus’ commitment to our high-performance programs, but because of the unprecedented investment they are making in community cricket across our state,” Mr Baker said.
“More than $1 million will be invested directly into community cricket initiatives over the next five years, helping us remove barriers to participation and create more opportunities for Tasmanians to play and enjoy our game.”
A major component of the partnership is the Firmus Beyond Boundaries Program, which will support grassroots cricket initiatives in communities across Tasmania facing barriers to participation.
Through targeted programs, equipment support and local engagement initiatives, the program aims to create more opportunities for Tasmanians to experience cricket.
“We started in northern Tasmania, and supporting the communities around us is an important part of our ethos here,” Firmus co-founder and co-CEO Oliver Curtis said.
“Local sports clubs give people a place to come together, and we want to help them keep creating those opportunities.
“Through Beyond Boundaries and the community club grants, we’ll support grassroots cricket with equipment, local programs and projects that make it easier for people to take part. This partnership is about backing clubs and the people who keep them going, so more Tasmanians can enjoy the game.”
The partnership will also expand Cricket Tasmania's Community Club Development Grants program, with Firmus providing funding to help clubs deliver projects that increase participation, promote inclusion and strengthen community connections.
Mr Baker said the investment would help Cricket Tasmania reach more young people and communities across the state.
“Our goal is to ensure every Tasmanian has the opportunity to play, connect with and enjoy the game of cricket,” Mr Baker said.
“Whether that is providing equipment to schools, supporting community clubs or delivering programs into areas where opportunities have traditionally been limited, this partnership gives us the capacity to make a genuine difference.
“Firmus has made a long-term commitment that will help us build sustainable programs and create a lasting impact for future generations of Tasmanian cricketers.”
Firmus will have a visible presence during Hurricanes home match days in both Hobart and Launceston, with the Firmus brand visible both on and off field. Beyond match days, the partnership will include support for the annual Ponting Foundation Match and a range of community initiatives delivered throughout the Big Bash season.
The partnership will commence ahead of the 2026-27 season.
