In news this morning, Tigers batsman Jake Weatherald has announced he is returning to South Australia in the off-season after three seasons with Tasmania.
After joining the Tigers in 2023, Weatherald had his breakout season in 2024–25, where he played every game for the Tigers and was the Shield's standout batsman, scoring 906 runs at 50.33. This performance put him into Ashes contention and earned him the Ricky Ponting Medal for that year. After being selected for the Ashes squad in the 2025–26 season, Weatherald managed to still play a role in the Tasmanian domestic season in between his national commitments.
In a statement from Weatherald:
“I would like to thank Cricket Tasmania for the opportunity to come down and not only play but be a part of a fantastic program.
Jeff, Sall and the entire program in general welcomed me in and have allowed to me to reach a new level of cricket which greatly assisted in realising my Australian test dreams”
Thank you for everything you have done on and off the field for Tasmanian cricket, Jake. We can’t wait to see what you do next.
