Tigers add young talent as Zac Curtain earns Rookie Contract

The Tasmanian Tigers are proud to announce that talented young cricketer Zac Curtain has signed a Rookie contract, joining the Tigers squad for the next two seasons.

Curtain expressed his excitement at securing his first professional deal.

“I’m very proud and grateful to be given this opportunity, and it’s something I’ve dreamed about for a long time, and I’m super excited to get stuck in.

“I’ve been fortunate to meet and work with so many amazing people along the way, and I’m incredibly thankful for their belief in me and the time they’ve invested in my journey so far.

“I can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings,” said Curtain.

Recently turning 20, Curtain is regarded as one of Tasmania’s most promising young talents.

Raised in Cygnet in the Huon Channel, he plays Premier cricket for Kingborough District Cricket Club, where he has developed a reputation as a versatile right-handed batter capable of filling any position in the top seven, as well as being a talented wicketkeeper.

Curtain made his CTPL debut as a 17-year-old during the 2022–23 season and enjoyed a breakout summer the following year.

His performances in Cricket Tasmania’s pathway system have been equally impressive, highlighted by a score of 117 at the U19 National Championships as an underage player in 2023–24, shortly after posting his maiden 1st Grade century for Kingborough.

His rise continued with selection in the U19 Australian team for a tour of India, followed by appearances for Tasmania’s Second XI, despite an elbow injury that interrupted his 2024–25 season.

Curtain then spent the 2025 off-season in Darwin, playing for Southern Districts in Northern Territory A Grade and featuring in every match for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Top End T20 tournament.

Currently, Curtain is in outstanding form, leading the 2025-26 CTPL First Grade run-scoring charts with 470 runs at an average of 94.

Tasmanian Tigers Head Coach Jeff Vaughan welcomed Curtain to the program.

“We are very pleased to bring such a talented young Tasmanian cricketer into our squad as one of our Rookies for the 2025–26 season.

“Zac has impressed us with his performances in Premier cricket, his contributions in the pathway system, and the work he’s done with us in squad balance sessions and Second XI games.

“At only 20 years old, we see him as a long-term batting and wicketkeeping option for Tasmania, and this opportunity will give him invaluable exposure to the next level,” said Vaughan.

Curtain will represent Tasmania at the U19 National Championships in Perth next week as he begins his journey with the Tigers.
