Gibson and Trenaman locked in until 2027!

Following yesterday’s announcement, the Tasmanian Tigers can confirm that two of their strongest performers from last summer have been rewarded with new Tigers deals ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Penning two-year deals are 2024-25 Veronica Pyke Medallist Maisy Gibson, and in-form opening batter Rachel Trenaman, who made a triumphant return to play following back-to-back ACL injuries.

Gibson, who elected not to hold a domestic contract in the 2023-24 season, returned to play for the Tigers full-time last summer and rewarded the faith that Head Coach Jude Coleman put in her with a career-best wicket-taking season.

She is pleased to be returning to play for Tasmania once again.

“I am absolutely pumped to be signed on for two more years.

“I’m also excited to be back with the team and around some new recruits, especially after missing out on the WNCL final so closely last season,” said Gibson.

Gibson has played 59 games in her WNCL career following her debut in 2016, and has taken 77 wickets, which has her sitting 10th overall in total wickets in the WNCL since 2012.

Last season was her career best for the Tasmanian Tigers, taking 23 wickets in her 12 games, along with winning the Best and Fairest for the Tigers WNCL squad.

She also scored her first WNCL 50 last season, and despite batting down the order, played a key role for the Tigers in several matches.

Tasmanian Tigers Assistant and Spin Bowling Coach Clive Rose was impressed by Gibson last summer.

"Maisy had an amazing season last year and we are thrilled to have her committed to the Tigers for the coming two seasons.

“She has been an integral part of our bowling unit and a great personality to have around the group.

“She has had huge growth as a person and a player since being a part of this program and we can't to see what she can do at Ninja Stadium over the next couple of seasons," explained Rose.

Trenaman’s return to play was a highlight for the Tasmanian Tigers last summer.

Following her extended break from playing the game, seeing her perform on the national stage with such consistent performances was impressive.

She is thankful for the support the Tasmanian Tigers provided her.

“I’m incredibly grateful to be re-signing for another two years with the Tigers.

“The past few seasons have been incredibly challenging, but to be back out there and contributing on the field again means everything.

“This team has had an incredible run of success, and while last year didn’t end the way we wanted, I’m excited about our prospects again this season,” said Trenaman.

In her four games for the Tasmanian Tigers in the back-half of the 2024-25 WNCL season, Trenaman scored 279 runs at an average of 93.00 with two 50s and a massive 124 against Victoria when Tasmania’s WNCL Final hopes were still in the balance.

Her form in the WNCL led to her selection in the Australian ‘Green vs Gold’ match, which served as a warmup game for the Australia ‘A’ matches against England, where Trenaman would score 77 and 76 opening the batting.

In her 36 WNCL games since her debut in 2016, Trenaman has averaged 44.08 with the bat with 1058 runs to her name, but is primed for a huge 2025-26 season with a full pre-season under her belt.

Tasmanian Tigers Head Coach, Jude Coleman, was delighted to see Trenaman return to play last summer.

"We are super excited by what ‘Trenno’ can produce for us and know how hard she has been working behind the scenes to get back, so to see her dominate when she came back into the squad was super pleasing for her."

"Her performances in the Australia 'A' match last month show her supreme her talent is supreme, and she is set up for a huge 2025-26 season," said Coleman.

Gibson and Trenaman join Emma Manix-Geeves as re-signings for the Tigers, along with new signings Courtney Sippel, Sara Kennedy, and Ava Curtis, with more re-signings to be announced next week.
