Tigers take a Sipp, as Courtney Sippel signs in Tasmania

In the Tasmanian Tigers Female Program’s first signing of the 2025-26 offseason, former Queensland quick Courtney Sippel will move south to Tasmania.

Debuting for Queensland in the 2021-22 season, the 24-year-old has taken 64 wickets in her 46-match Women’s National Cricket League career.

Sippel is looking forward to moving states and continuing her career in Tasmania.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Tigers and can’t wait to get started with the group.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work under Jude Coleman before, and I’m really looking forward to doing that again.

“I’m keen to get around the girls and be part of what is building down in Tassie!” stated Sippel.

Sippel played in nine of Queensland’s 13 WNCL matches last year, taking nine wickets for the season with best figures of 3-55 against South Australia, and took three wickets against her new Tasmanian teammates in January.

Throughout her career, she has always been a reliable option for the Queensland WNCL side, and to be 15th in the overall wicket-taking tally (since 2012) shows that Sippel knows how to take wickets.

Her career best figures in the WNCL are 4-15, and she also has a WNCL 50 to her name, scoring 54 not out against the ACT in the 2021-22 season batting at number eight.

Her experience in the 20-over format will also be vital for the Tasmanian Tigers, having played 48 games in the WBBL for the Brisbane Heat up until last season before signing with the Sydney Sixers.

Taking 44 wickets across all her matches, her skills in T20 bowling will be utilised strongly by Elyse Villani and the Tasmanian Tigers side.

Tasmanian Tigers Female Program Head Coach, Jude Coleman, is excited to have secured a player of Sippel’s talent.

"We are very pleased to have signed someone of Courtney's quality, she will fit in seamlessly to Tasmania and our program with her strong work ethic and down-to-earth nature.

"She has plenty of experience playing for Queensland in the WNCL and for the Heat and Sixers in the WBBL and will fit in very well into the structure of our squad, with her best cricket still in front of her at only 24 years of age.

"Her ability to swing the new ball and her many variations will give us a talented, three-phase bowling option next season,” said Coleman.

Sippel is the first signing to the Tasmanian Tigers Female Program ahead of the 2025-26 season, with several signings and re-signings to be announced in the coming weeks.
