2024 - 25 Community Cricket Awards

Cricket Tasmania is proud to share their 2024-25 Community Cricket Awards for last season.

Without the commitment, support and initiative that each volunteer in cricket in our state shows when they commit to volunteering within cricket, the game would cease to exist.

All award winners have shown an ability to go above and beyond when supporting their club, region or state, ensuring that Tasmanian cricket continues to grow.

The Community Cricket Awards are a great opportunity to recognise the following winners for their commitment to the game in Tasmania.

“Whilst these awards highlight the great efforts of those individuals and clubs, we also would like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteer workforce across Tasmania.

“Without the dedication and commitment from our volunteers, thousands of Tasmanians would be without the game,” stated King.

Volunteer of the Year

This award is proudly sponsored by Aurora Energy who will be keeping Jaimie extra warm this Winter, thanks to one month of free Power Hours from Aurora Energy – congratulations Jaimie!

Jaimie Chilcott – Bracknell CC

Jaimie Chilcott has taken on the roles of both Treasurer and Cricket Blast Coordinator at Bracknell Cricket Club. She has done a mammoth amount of work, which has helped ensure over 40 participants registered in Bracknell’s first year running the program, bringing new families to the club.

Jaimie attended the Cricket Blast Coordinator Training at the start of the season to upskill herself by providing quality experiences for the club's Blast participants. She was also a player in the club's TCL Female Boom team and attended the PlayHQ E-Scoring session in September 2024 to ensure she could help her teammates and the club score games.

Community Junior Coach of the Year

Chris Demeyer – Legana CC

Chris has worn many hats at the club, including Secretary, President, Vice-President, Captain, Junior Coach and now the Junior Development Officer. Chris does a mountain of work, engaging and developing young people in the local community through cricket.

He has been the key driver behind the club’s introduction of a Cricket Blast program along with an Under 12s team over the past few seasons, which resulted in the club being able to enter an Under 14s team this season.

Chris has been a regular attendee of Coach Upskill sessions, gaining his Level 1 Accreditation in 2023-24 while also attending the newly introduced Coach Approach program this season, showing his commitment to providing quality experiences for participants.

Women and Girls Initiative of the Year

Launceston Nepali CC – Women’s Super 6s Gala Day

Launceston Nepali CC held a Women's Super 6s event which saw three teams play off against each other in a Gala Day event last September. They had shirt presentations and made the event into a community day which created a welcoming and inviting way to get Women from the Nepalese Community into playing cricket.

The idea of this day was to get girls from their community playing cricket with an adapted format to build into a team for Season 2025-26 in the TCL Female Boom. The club supplied gear for all participants on the day and played shorter and adapted matches to help new players learn the game.

The club did a terrific job promoting and covering the event on social media using images and videos. They also had a video message from the Nepalese Women's International Captain, who wished them good luck before the day, which they posted to social media.

Community Cricket Initiative of the Year

Whitemore Cricket Club – No Player Under 25 Years Old Pays Subs

This season, Whitemore Cricket Club introduced free opportunities for players under 25 years old to play for their cricket club. The idea was to eliminate financial barriers and costs for young players to play for their club.

A total of 17 players aged under 25 years old took up this opportunity, which for a small club is a massive amount. As a result of this initiative, Whitemore Cricket Club could field a second team in the TCL in the C-Grade competition for the first time in their history.

Community Match Official of the Year

Amey Jambekar – Huon Chanel Cricket Association

Since the inception of the HCCA Women’s Competition, Amey has single-handedly umpired all matches. With T20 matches played in a gala day format, Amey has actively shown his commitment to supporting and growing the Women’s game by officiating these matches.

During the 2024-2025 season, the HCCA Women's Competition expanded to six teams, meaning an extra match was played in each round. Amey has embraced this 50% increase in his umpiring workload and now stands in three back-to-back T20 matches each round to ensure that the players have an experienced Umpire to support them in their ongoing learning.

Amey was announced as the CA Multicultural Umpire of the Month for January.

Young Leader of the Year

Rohanee Hancock – Wynyard and Districts Cricket Club

Rohanee is the Wynyard and Districts Cricket Club Junior Development Officer and their Cricket Blast Coordinator. She has played a key role in recent seasons in the growth and quality of the WDCC’s Junior Pathway.

She has been heavily involved in the introduction of the Wynyard and Districts CC Primary School Roster. This roster aims to create a smoother transition for kids to enter the WDCC Junior Pathway by playing games locally after school on Friday afternoons. This initiative has increased WDCC from having one U12 team in 2021-22 to regularly having three teams in the last few seasons.

Rohanee also coordinated the club's Cricket Blast program, which has consistently had around 30 participants in the last three seasons. Rohanee’s passion and commitment to Junior Cricket in the Wynyard region are a great example of a young person fostering opportunities for the next generation at her club.

Woolworths Cricket Blast Program of the Year

Westbury Cricket Club – Westbury Shamrocks and St Pats Shamrocks Programs

Westbury Cricket Club has continued to succeed with their hybrid, multi-program Cricket Blast model, this season increasing from 29 participants in 2023/24 to 45 participants. The multi-program model has the club running two separate programs; one program, following the more traditional route run at Westbury Cricket Club on a Thursday Afternoon, with the other being run at St Patrick’s College in Prospect on a Tuesday Afternoon.

The two-program model certainly creates more work for Westbury CC, but the results of increased participation and connection to the school is a worthwhile investment for the club. The multiple offerings allow families to choose a program that suits them best for day or location and build further connection to St Patrick’s College which continues to be a strong feeder for the Westbury CC Junior and Senior programs.
