The Cricket Tasmania (CT) Board has endorsed the appointment of David Boon to the Cricket Australia Board as its nominated Director.
The decision was taken at its meeting on Monday (24 February).
At the same meeting, former CT Deputy Chairman Tim Scott was elected Chairman and Director Ben Targett was elected to the Deputy Chairman position.
Boon was appointed Chairman of CT in September 2022. He has been a Board member since 2014.
“I have enjoyed my entire time on the Board of Cricket Tasmania and am very proud to have served as Chairman,” he said.
“It has been a privilege to be a part of the growth of Tasmanian cricket, accomplishing great things.
“Off the field, the business is in a very stable position as we look to the future creating an environment where our people are encouraged to excel under the leadership of CEO Dom Baker.”
Boon said he was pleased Tasmania continued to provide players to represent Australia.
“The unprecedented success of the Tasmanian Tigers WNCL one-day team and the recent men’s Hobart Hurricanes maiden Big Bash League title were obvious on-field highlights,” he said.
“I remain very positive about the new stadium, and even more excited about the High-Performance Centre and what that will provide for both male and female players of all ages.”
He thanked his colleagues on the Board for their commitment and support which had been “constant and unyielding”.
“I am extremely confident that their brilliant work will continue given their passion for Tasmanian cricket,” he said.
“I now look forward to the next chapter and my role with Australian Cricket as Tasmania’s representative elected to the Cricket Australia Board.”
Scott was first appointed to the CT Board in October 2020, before being elected Deputy Chairman in September 2022.
He said it was a great privilege to be endorsed by the CT Board as its next Chairman.
“The responsibility that comes with this position is one that I respect greatly, and I am committed to serving Cricket in Tasmania to the best of my ability,” Scott said.
He expressed his gratitude to David Boon for his mentorship and support and wished him well in his role on the Cricket Australia Board as Tasmania’s nominated director.
“Our Board is committed to working closely with our CEO, Dom Baker, along with his leadership team to deliver our key strategic pillars of increasing cricket participation across Tasmania, continuing to develop winning teams, to be a leader in performance and well-being and to increase cricket investment across all levels of the game,” Scott said.
“Cricket’s pathway and direction of future success begins at grass roots level – from community cricket to premier cricket, to the professional game.
“It is a healthy pursuit, driven by a connection to community and mateship, that creates long-standing benefits beyond the boundary rope.
“Long may this continue.”
