CTPL Weekend Wrap: Round 21 (Day Two)

Kingborough has remained undefeated in 2025, following a dominant win over Greater Northern at the Twin Ovals over the past two weekends.

The match began with a restrictive bowling performance from the Knights, holding their opponents to a total of 133.

Cam Walter [3/37 off 13 overs] and Josh Henley [3/20 off 9 overs] did the bulk of the damage for the hosts.

With 40 overs remaining in the day, Kingborough set out its chase, led by opener Zak Honeybrook [44 off 52 balls] and captain Dylan Hay [48 off 44 balls].

Playing-coach Tom Martyn attributes his side’s success in the two-day format to consistency, a trait which brought the Knights their first red-ball premiership since 2015 a year ago.

“It was a consistent performance across the board,” he said.

“Everyone knows their role fairly well in the red-ball format.

“We can just continue to roll out a similar type of game.

“It’s about consistent roles, and consistent performances.”

Kingborough continued batting on the second day, with Riley Backhouse and Josh Pride putting in spirited performances, both narrowly missing out on a half-century.

The Knights were finally bowled out on 243, leaving a 110-run lead on the board with much of day two remaining.

Greater Northern was able to consolidate from losing three early wickets, surviving an outright loss with 6-170 at the end of play.

Zak Honeybrook was the pick of the bowlers for Kingborough, something Martyn highlighted post-game.

“Zak Honeybrook was great in both innings as a bowler,” he said.

“He brought real aggression and split open the Raider’s batters.

“Him and Dylan with the bat knocked over most of the runs as well which was really pleasing.”

With University winnings, the Knights are still two points off top place, but Martyn assures his side is paying no mind to the Lions.

“We’d like to finish top two, just to give ourselves a bit of breathing room if weather was to play a part in the semi-final,” he said.

“For sure we would like to finish top, but it’s not a massive motivating factor for us right now.”

Kingborough were eliminated in a one-day semi-final against University earlier this season, following an abandonment due to rain.

The Lions proved successful in their match against North Hobart, coming three wickets away from an outright victory.

While Ben Hilfenhaus’ team won on first innings a week ago, the continued their dominance on Saturday.

Young all-rounder Louis Smith made his highest score of the season, hitting 74 off 54 balls, including a monstrous six 6’s.

In search of an outright and with a 107-run lead, Uni took the fight to North Hobart.

Part-time bowler Zac Phair took four wickets for the Lions, but it was all in vain as the Demons held on with two batsmen left in the sheds.

It’s a win that ensures Uni remains on top of the ladder for another week.

Lindisfarne remains winless in 2025, following a first innings loss to Clarence at ANZAC Park.

The Lightning trailed by 108 at the conclusion of day one, with just two wickets in hand, and were unable to chase down Clarence’s 224, despite a valiant effort.

The Roos then batted again, looking to extend their lead of 57.

Michael Jones [75 not out off 128 balls] did just that, with Clarence declaring at 8-183, 240 runs ahead.

With just 10 overs left in the day, Lindisfarne was able to negotiate the final portion of the game to avoid losing outright.

New Town’s Joe Randall has scored a fantastic century in the Bucks win over Glenorchy at KGV Oval.

Peter Di Venuto’s side had the game wrapped up on the first day, chasing down the Magpies’ score of 113 with relative ease.

Randall was key to the chase, and continued his innings on Saturday, where he made an impressive 109 off 114 balls.

It’s his first since 2021, a moment worth waiting for the New Town batsman.

The Bucks continued batting until declaring at 7-251, looking to bowl out Glenorchy for less than 138.

A resilient innings from Magpies’ captain-coach Josh Hartill [73 not out off 183 balls] ensured New Town did not come away with maximum points.

In the women’s competition, New Town has snapped its four-game losing streak with a slender win over Clarence.

Chloe Abel [52 off 60 balls] performed with the bat for the Bucks, as they posted a score of 171.

Catherine How [3/28 off 10 overs] took the most wickets for Clarence.

The Roos chase began well, but losing wickets in clumps proved to be the Achilles heel of Maisy Gibson’s side.

Bethany Lane [4/37 off 8 overs] was exceptional with the ball for New Town, while Tabatha Saville [55 not out off 49 balls] continued her strong form at the top of the order for Clarence.

Clarence needed 22 runs to win when the ninth wicket fell, making for a close finish.

Well executed death bowling from Lane and seamer Ashlee Kennedy, who took the final wicket, ensured a close 4-run win for the Bucks, their first of the one-day season.

Greater Northern has won its third match in a row, defeating North Hobart as it extends the gap to Clarence in third.

Montana Bradley [96 off 141 balls] and Hayley Silver-Holmes [75 off 67 balls] fired the Raiders to 6-263 off their 50 overs.

North Hobart never got close in its’ chase, falling 97 runs short at 166, marking their first loss of the one-day season.

The women’s competition continues to tighten up as the four teams fight for a place in the grand final.
