The Tasmanian Tigers can confirm that Marsh Sheffield Shield Team of the Season batter, Charlie Wakim, has been rewarded with a two-year re-signing ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Wakim dominated for the Tigers in the Marsh Sheffield Shield, establishing himself as one of the leaders of the squad and one of our most consistent performers.
He scored key centuries against South Australia in the first Shield game of the season, and against Victoria in Melbourne, averaging 32.33 for the season to go with 679 red-ball runs.
He also performed admirably in Marsh Cup matches against Queensland and Western Australia, scoring 82 and 68 batting at number three.
Wakim is looking forward to hopefully bringing a Shield title to Tasmania next season.
“I am thrilled to continue the journey with the Tasmanian Tigers for another two seasons!
“I’m really keen to build on the momentum from last season, and help the team go one step further,” Stated Wakim.
A member of the leadership team at the Tasmanian Tigers, Wakim has supported Tigers Captain, Jordan Silk and Vice-Captain, Beau Webster throughout the season, and was relied upon for his guidance of younger players as they stood up during different periods throughout the season.
Head Coach of the Tasmanian Tigers, Jeff Vaughan discussed his importance to the squad.
“Charlie’s re-signing is a reward for the mountain of work he has put in for the Tigers program over the past few years, particularly his strong form in helping us get off to a good start in the Shield last season.
“As a key member of our leaderships group, Charlie’s voice is well respected within the changeroom, and we look forward to seeing him grow and influence our team positively.”
