The Tasmanian Tigers kicked off the new year in style, registering a confident bonus point victory over New South Wales thanks to a brilliant spell from Amy Smith, and a middle order partnership between Naomi Stalenberg and Tabatha Saville.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, NSW were a little nervy to start, and the Tigers took the early wicket of Claire Moore, snicking off to Molly Strano.
Tahlia Wilson and Anika Learoyd rebuilt the home side's innings nicely - but Amy Smith broke the partnership, removing Learoyd lbw to leave NSW 2-66.
Wilson was caught on 41 off Hayley Silver-Holmes a few overs later, and Amy Smith picked up her second, clean bowling Erin Burns for 1 to help put the Tigers firmly in control.
Georgia Adams chipped in with a handy 22 before being caught brilliantly by Lizelle Lee off Lauren Smith - with the South African taking a fabulous reaction catch off a firmly struck pull shot.
Lauren Smith struck again, claiming her second wicket against her old side and New South Wales were in danger of total collapse at 6-110.
Maitlin Brown and Sammy-Jo Johnson led the revival, adding 65 runs for the next wicket over a period of 15 overs, before young star Amy Smith weaved her magic to remove both - catching Brown (31) off her own bowling, before castling Johnson (34).
Smith then took a second catch off her own bowling to remove Sarah Coyte, giving her five wickets in a sensational spell which restricted the home side and put Tasmania in the drivers seat - finishing with figures of 5/33 - while New South Wales ended their innings 9-197.
Faced with a modest total to defend, New South Wales needed a quick breakthrough and got just that - when Anika Learoyd took a genuine hanger at second slip to remove Lizelle Lee just two balls into the innings.
Elyse Villani and Nicola Carey were unphased, and quickly went about putting the Tigers back into a winning position - adding fifty runs before Villani was trapped in front lbw off Maitlin Brown, leaving Tasmania 2-50.
Nicola Carey continued scoring at a run-a-ball rate, but Emma Manix-Geeves fell for 1 after trying to paddle familiar face Sarah Coyte. Carey was removed for a very well made 40 a few overs later - but at 4-76 the door was now well and truly open for the home side - who had clawed their way back into the contest.
However, the Tigers needn't have worried, as Naomi Stalenberg and Tabatha Saville both played magnificent innings to seal victory for the visitors. Sharing a partnership of 104, Saville and Stalenberg rebuilt the innings brilliantly.
Playing the best innings of her Tigers career, Saville played a variety of shots on her way to 55 runs off just 60 balls - using both sides of the wicket and exceptional footwork and timing to strike eight boundaries before being dismissed by Sarah Coyte. However, by the time New South Wales had managed the breakthrough, it was 5-180.
Stalenberg started more patiently, but quickly accelerated her innings with her trademark explosive batting - going aerial and attacking the bowling once Saville had settled in. A long six down the ground and some nicely placed balls behind point took Stalenberg into the 40s, and despite Saville's wicket - Stalenberg kept her aggressive mindset.
Joined by Molly Strano, Stalenberg blasted a six over square leg, before pushing a four through the covers to end the game, finishing with a fantastic 67* off 77 balls to take Tasmania home with 4 wickets to spare.
