2023/24 Indigenous Cricket Programs

Cricket Tasmania is excited to extend the opportunity for female players to be involved in Indigenous cricket programs this summer. This will include identifying female players across the state to participate in an exhibition match to help position the program for future growth.

The Men’s program has participated in Cricket Australia’s National Indigenous Cricket Carnival along with the Imparja Cup since 1994 and will again participate at this year's carnival that will be in Alice Springs from 21-28th February.

Cricket Tasmania is holding selection and information sessions for the 2023/24 programs across the state. Any male or female who identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and wants to be part of the program represent are invited to register their attendance at one of three upcoming sessions that will take place in the North West, North and South.

Alex King, General Manager for Community Cricket at Cricket Tasmania, spoke of his delight in offering a female program for Indigenous cricket in the state. “We are excited to extend our opportunities to support both cultural and cricket experiences across the state by introducing a female program this season.” Explained Alex, “This female program will give us a great platform for future growth of the program in the years to come.”

King explained how vital Tasmania’s involvement in this carnival has been, “Whilst the female program will be a new addition, we have a rich history being involved in the National Indigenous Cricket Carnivals along with the previous Imparja Cup.”

“We will continue to use this program to celebrate both cricket and culture.”
