It was a rough start to the season for the Tigers at Junction Oval that saw Victoria win by 3-wickets, despite a man of the match performance from Beau Webster.
The opening clash for the Tigers domestic season saw the debut of three tigers’ players, with Paddy Dooley, Billy Stanlake and Jake Weatherald joining the XI for the first time.
It was Beau Webster who held Tasmania together in the first innings making 83 runs off 86 balls, including nine boundaries with a strike rate of 96.51.
Despite Webster’s best efforts, the Tigers were all out for 224 with no one else able to break 30 runs on the scorecard as Jake Weatherald made 28 and Matthew Wade making 25.
The second innings saw Billy Stanlake take his first wicket for the Tigers, a milestone for the paceman after his much anticipated return to first-class cricket after injury.
It was Beau Webster who gave the Tigers one last glimpse of hope before the Vics chased down the total by the 44th over leaving Tasmania with a 3-wicket loss.
