In a first for youth cricket in the state, the Hurricanes Junior League will be supported by a statewide partner, backing thousands of young Tasmanians as they take part in local cricket programs.
TasWater has joined forces with Cricket Tasmania as a partner of the Hurricanes Junior League, building on the organisation’s previous role as Hydration Partner of the Hobart Hurricanes.
Cricket Tasmania’s Partnership and Infrastructure General Manager Alison Turner said the agreement would help keep cricket accessible for young players across the state.
“We’re thrilled that TasWater will remain in our partnership family and look forward to supporting junior cricket around the state,” Turner said.
“This agreement supports participation initiatives and strives to keep the game accessible for all and it is exciting for the Hurricanes Junior League to have a partner as engaged as TasWater.”
TasWater Head of Brand and Insights Jill Cummins said the partnership reflected the organisation’s broader commitment to community wellbeing.
“Grassroots community engagement is central to TasWater’s mission. As the proud partner of the Hurricanes Junior League, we’re using this platform to inspire the next generation of Water Guardians – empowering young Tasmanians to take simple, everyday actions that build lifelong water-wise habits and promote healthy hydration,” Cummins said.
“By partnering with junior cricket, we’re helping to set up the next generation, not just as athletes, but as Tasmanians who value water and its role in sustaining life and nature.”
The agreement also creates opportunities for TasWater-Hurricanes Junior League participants to be involved in summer W/BBL matches, including roles as ball kids, giving young players unique experiences at the elite level.
By working together, TasWater and Cricket Tasmania aim to strengthen pathways for aspiring players while promoting positive community outcomes beyond the game.
The TasWater-Hurricanes Junior League will officially launch its partnership on Monday, 3 November 2025
