Women’s 1st Grade CTPL Announcement

With the success of women’s cricket in Tasmania off the back of three WNCL Championships in the last four years, the Wilson Homes Cricket Tasmania Premier League (CTPL) Women’s 1st Grade competition is expanding.

Joining Clarence, Greater Northern Raiders, New Town and North Hobart is Kingborough District Cricket Club for the 2025-26 Season.

Greg Hechter, Cricket Tasmania’s Head of Talent and Development said the addition of Kingborough to the women’s competition was a no-brainer.

“We are pleased to admit Kingborough into the Women's 1st Grade competition for this season.

“They have shown a commitment to growing the female game in the Kingborough and Huon districts, and by adding a fifth team to the Women’s CTPL 1st grade we can provide more playing opportunities and expose more female cricketers in the state to playing at a higher level.

“Kingborough also has excellent facilities at the Twin Ovals with strong leadership within their club and are well placed to bring a women’s 1st grade team,” stated Hechter.

Having won the 2nd Grade Women’s premiership in 2022-23 and 2024-25, Kingborough will be hoping to add their first Women’s 1st grade title since the restructuring of the Women’s competition in 2020.

They have also achieved sustained success in the men’s CTPL competition, with each of their teams, from 1st Grade Men’s through to U18s making the final in season 2024-25.

Kingborough District Cricket Club’s president, Jeff Ross is delighted to have their women’s program play in Tasmania’s premier cricket competition.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have secured a Women’s 1st Grade licence and to be rejoining the premier CTPL competition.

“This has been years in the making, and it reflects not only the hard work within our club, but also the growth of women’s cricket in the Huon and Channel, with seven teams now competing through HCCA, it's a testament to the strength and vibrancy of our region’s players and volunteers.

"This opportunity goes far beyond cricket. It’s about showing young girls in our community that there is a genuine pathway—from school programs right through to premier club level and ultimately state and national stages.

“We’re proud to be building that pathway for cricket and creating an environment where women’s sport continues to grow, thrive and inspire," said Ross.

The Wilson Homes Cricket Tasmania Premier League Women’s 1st Grade competition begins on Sunday 5 October 2025 and will run through to the end of March.
