The 'Weathers' looking good after Jake's resigning

In his second season as part of the Tasmanian Tigers, Jake Weatherald reminded all in Australian domestic cricket of his supreme talent throughout the 2024-25 season.

Winning two out of three major awards in the Tasmanian Tigers program, including the prestigious Ricky Ponting Medal, he would dominate bowlers from around the country,
and he is delighted to be continuing his career in Tasmania.

“I am so happy to sign for three years, I wanted to commit long-term to a group on the

cusp of winning multiple Shield titles.

“I am desperate to be a big part of that,” said Weatherald.

After finding himself outside the Tigers XI in the 2023-24 season, Weatherald started the 2024-25 summer in form, coming off a strong English summer during the Tigers off-season.

In the Sheffield Shield last summer, he would score a season-high 906 runs, with three 100s to his name at an impressive strike rate of 68.27.

Whenever Tasmania needed one of their players to step up, it would usually be Weatherald, with his flamboyant and attacking batting style often delivering a counterpunch whenever the Tigers would be in a tough position.

Finishing in the Team of the Season for the Sheffield Shield, along with an average of 43.00 in the One-Day Cup, Weatherald’s form was unparalleled to anyone else within the Tigers squad.

As an experienced cricketer, having played 71 first-class matches since debuting in 2016 and having 4784 runs to his name, having a player of Weatherald’s calibre at the top of the order for the Tigers has been vital.

He will continue to be a huge part of the Tigers squad into the future after re-signing in Tasmania for three further summers after being out of contract following the 2024-25 season.

Tasmanian Tigers Head Coach Jeff Vaughan was impressed with Weatherald last season and is happy he is continuing his career in Tasmania.

“Weathers’ was an important part of our batting unit last summer.

“What has impressed me is the way that he continually works hard on his game and has an immense appetite for improvement, he is inquisitive about his development, but an absolute confidence in the way he plays the game which gives him the best opportunity for success.

“He is a terrific team man, is great in our locker room, and is a leader to everyone within our squad, I am very pleased he is continuing his career down here,” said Vaughan.

Weatherald joins Riley Meredith as a key re-signing for the Tasmanian Tigers and joins new signing Marcus Bean ahead of several more signings to be announced later this week.
