The long awaited first home game of the WNCL season had finally arrived, with no better way to kick it off than with the grand final rematch against South Australia.
The Scorpions won the toss and elected to bowl - sending Elyse Villani and Lizelle Lee to the crease to begin the Tigers innings. Unfortunately, the skippers dream run against South Australia was not to continue - falling in the fourth over- for 7 runs off the bowling of Kate Peterson.
Conversely, Lizelle Lee began brilliantly, carrying her WBBL form into the domestic outfit - punishing the Scorpions through the early stages. Joined by Nicola Carey, the powerful South African blasted 8 boundaries on her way to a run a ball 48 - steadying the Tigers at 2-85 before her wicket.
The crafty Megan Schutt removed Heather Graham, before Naomi Stalenberg joined Carey for what was the be the innings defining partnership. Set at the crease, Carey assumed the dominant role and Stalenberg happily supported - with the pair bringing the total above 150 without loss.
The pair brought the score above 200 before Stalenberg finally fell - contributing a valuable 41 runs while Carey continued to accelerate the innings.
Amy Smith provided a brief cameo, before Carey was able to raise the bat for an excellent hundred, anchoring the Tigers innings with patience and poise. She was finally removed on 113 off 125 deliveries, striking 11 boundaries to bring the Tigers to a healthy total of 6-249.
Jayley Silver-Holmes and Molly Strano both supplied handy double figure scores, before Tasmania finished play 8-274.
The Tigers got off to a dream start, with Hayley Silver-Holmes removing Emma de Broughe caught behind in just the second over of the game. It got even better for the Tigers shortly after, with Bridget Patterson holing out off Sasha Moloney to leave the Scorpions in dire straights at 2-22.
Courtney Webb and Josie Dooley went about repairing the damage slowly but surely, and while the total did grow, the required run rate did as well. Despite building a solid partnership, it was all a bit slow in terms of creating a realistic chase.
Molly Strano finally made the key breakthrough - removing Courtney Webb on 38. This started a flurry of wickets, with Maddie Penna (2), Josie Dooley (57) and Jemma Barsby (9) all falling in the space of seven overs, with Strano taking another two wickets in the process, leaving South Australia 6-130.
Strano had her fourth after a superb one handed caught and bowled, and made it five when she trapped Megan Schutt lbw - finishing her spell with superb figures of 5-30.
The Tigers wrapped things up quickly from there on out - bowling South Australia out for just 162 - sending a message to the rest of the competition in the process.
