The son of the former Tasmania wicketkeeper and opener Bruce Doolan, Alex is a stylish right-handed batsman who made his Test debut in South Africa in 2014.
It wasn’t the Tasmanian’s first match against the Proteas, with Doolan’s unbeaten 161 for Australia A against them at the SCG in 2012 putting him front and centre of the national selection panel.
He finished that summer with 715 runs in the Sheffield Shield, which came on the back of tallies of 642, 554 and 415 in his first three full seasons for the Tigers. He started the 2013-14 season with a brilliant innings of 132 as Tasmania chased down 295 against a NSW side that included nine Australian representatives.
Following Australia’s Ashes whitewash, Doolan replaced state teammate George Bailey in the squad for the tour of South Africa, where he scored 89 in the first Test in Centurion.
