Daniel is the lifeblood of the Sorell Cricket Club. Daniel takes on the official roles of Club President, Junior Coordinator, and Junior and Master Blaster Coordinator, but he’s also the first person to put his hand up to cook the BBQ or do MyCricket admin work. Not bad going for a 23-year-old at a club which boasts eight teams as well as Woolworths Cricket Blast programs!
Some of Daniel’s other roles at the Club have included running committee meetings - which had to be held over Zoom during the COVID lockdown period - sponsorship negotiations, administration, the organising of events and fundraisers, operating the canteen and bar, arranging club clothing, equipment maintenance, ensuring the club was COVID compliant, and much, much more.
Sorell Cricket Club has grown immensely in recent seasons under Daniel’s leadership, with the Club now boasting five junior teams that compete in the Hurricanes Junior League, as well as three senior men’s teams who compete in the Kookaburra Southern Cricket Association. Under Daniel’s guidance, the Club also has 20 participants in the Junior Blast and 24 participants in the Master Blast programs. Daniel has promoted these programs on behalf the club by posting information on the Club’s Facebook page, sending information to the local schools, and by attending specific schools as part of the MyState Community Blitz program.
Daniel has also generously opened the Club’s facilities over the last two seasons to allow Cricket Tasmania to host a Cricket Gala Day at Sorell for schools within the area, giving over 200 students access to toilet, change and canteen facilities. Daniel was present on the day, helping to run the canteen.
