The Tigers have claimed their first victory of the WNCL 19-20 season after defeating the South Australian Scorpions by 5 wickets.
It was a big day for both Hollie Armitage and Nicola Carey who made their debut for the WNCL Squad.
After a slow start in the bowling innings Gibson claimed the first wicket for the Tigers in the 17th over after dismissing McGrath for 23. Both Gibson and Phillips collected 3 wickets each, with debutante Nicola Carey claiming 2 for herself. The Scorpions were all out in the 46th over after setting a total of 172.
Coach Salliann Briggs said that the girls delivered a clinical bowling display throughout the match.
“We stuck to our plans and backed up effectively in the field,” she said
“Brooke led brilliantly, I thought her bowling changes to the conditions and situations set us up perfectly.”
The Tigers went on to chase down the 172 set within 38 overs. Carey continued to put on a show making a total of 64, closely followed by Thompson-Flint who produced 33.
“To chase down 172 within 40 overs to gain the additional bonus point will help with confidence of our batting unit leading into the next game,” Briggs said.
“On debut Nic lead from the front with the ball and then to back it up with the bat is the perfect start for her.”
The Tigers take on SA again on Thursday 9 January at Karen Rolton Oval at 10.30am AEST.
