Tasmania has two players selected in Australia’s Test squad for the first two Ashes Tests against England, starting next week.

Tim Paine will make his long-awaited return to Test cricket, over seven years since his last appearance in the baggy green. Fast bowler Jackson Bird has also been selected in the squad.

Paine is fresh off half-centuries with the CA XI against England and for the Tigers against Victoria in the Sheffield Shield game which was completed yesterday.

Bird has been in tremendous form over the first two matches of the Sheffield Shield season, capturing ten wickets from his two outings.

He travelled to Brisbane this week to participate in a fast bowler’s camp before the squad was announced.
