Cricket Tasmania is pleased to announce the signing of Amy Smith with the Tasmanian Tigers for the 2020/21 Season.

The local youngster was the recipient winner of the Tasmanian Female Young Player of the Year for the past two seasons, after her impressive performances at the National Championships in the State Squad and Cricket Australia XI Squads.

Smith made history when she became the youngest ever person to play for the Tigers in First-Class and List A cricket when she debuted in the squad in February 2019 at just 14 years of age.

“I got the call from Salliann on Friday night, I was very surprised on being told I’d received a contract,” Smith said.

“I’m very excited about getting this opportunity at such a young age.”

The 15-year-old is a leg spin bowler and has great confidence with the bat. She discussed how this has been her goal for a long time.

“A Tigers contract means a lot to me; I’ve always wanted to play professional cricket and I think this is a great learning opportunity for me to develop my game.”

“I’m looking forward to being around a lot of great players and coaches who know the game well, they’ll help me develop my skills on and off the field as much as possible.”

Smith spoke of how being a young developing player will mean that she’s looking to learn and develop her game more and getting that experience at a high level.

“I’m looking to improve on all aspects of my game, I mainly want to improve my bowling and fielding because it’s what I want to be the best at.”

“I’m looking at taking any opportunity that comes my way and to learn as much as I can and support the team.”
