The devastation from the bushfires that cleared through Kangaroo Island over summer left the Western Districts Cricket Club (WDCC) in pieces.

They lost their clubrooms, bar and kitchen in the fires, along with all their cricketing equipment.

Their hopes of recovering from the toll that the fire took upon their club were limited, but thanks to the Riana Cricket Club their spirits have been lifted.

The Riana Cricket Club (RCC) decided to lend a much needed helping hand to support the WDCC players, members, supporters and all the community.

The RCC decided that they would hold a fundraiser in early February coinciding with their annual Farmers Auction and their Sports Memorabilia Auction at their own club.

They kicked off the auction and all proceeds from the day and night went to the Western District Cricket Club, as well as Blaze Aid who are a volunteer organisation that work in rural Australia after natural disasters like bushfires.

They assist in rebuilding fences and other structures that have been damaged or destroyed.

The fundraiser was a huge success and brought the community together in a unique and powerful way.

One month on and representations from the Riana Cricket Club headed across to Kangaroo Island to make a presentation to Blaze Aid and the Western Districts Cricket Club.

The volunteers at Blaze aid came in, and a presentation of the $11K donation was given to support the recovery efforts for local farmers.

There will be another presentation that will take place tonight at the Western Districts Community Centre on behalf of the Riana Cricket Club and the greater cricketing community.

Stay tuned for further updates on the fundraisers taking place for the Kangaroo Island Community.
