Due the difficulties with fixturing due to COVID-19-related border restrictions, despite the fact that this is just the Tigers third Shield match of the season, it will be the second time they have faced the Bulls. The two sides faced off in what eventuated as a fiery draw at Adelaide’s Karen Rolton Oval, after the match was delayed and subsequently move from Brisbane’s Ian Healy Oval due to a COVID scare the week prior.
In a change of scene, the second meeting of the two teams will be played in the north Queensland city of Townsville, where Tim Ward will be looking to repeat his Player of the Match-heroics from their first encounter. In that match, Ward – in just his second first-class appearance – amassed a total of 225 runs across two innings, including a maiden first class century in the first innings of 144 runs off 343 deliveries.
The Tigers have named a 13-player squad to take on Queensland in Townsville:
Beau Webster (c)
Tom Andrews comes into the squad for Peter Siddle, who is being rested for the match in order to manage his upcoming workload.
Nathan Ellis and Matthew Wade (World Cup) and Jackson Bird and Tim Paine (injury) are also unavailable for selection.
Following being substituted out of the Tigers most recent Shield match due to concussion, Lawrence Neil-Smith has passed all return to play protocols and is available for selection.
The game will be played at Townsville’s Riverway Stadium, with the first ball scheduled for 11am AEDT each day of play.
