The Hurricanes Foundation Northern Rookie Program aims to give talented young Tasmanian players their first taste of what’s involved with being a member of the Hurricanes squad, with a view to developing them for selection as a full team member in the future.

The successful male and female cricketer chosen will be considered members of their respective Big Bash squads, participating in media opportunities, fan events and player appearances, as well as attending training sessions, matches and pre-season commitments during this upcoming W/BBL summer season.

These Northern Rookies would then need to be officially upgraded to be eligible for match selection for the Hobart Hurricanes.

Female ‘Northern Rookie’ Selection Process – A Cricket Tasmania email is going out to Northern Tasmanian cricket clubs, giving them the opportunity to nominate their female players to attend the Northern Rookie Trials, which will be held from 10am - 1pm on Saturday 24 November at the NTCA Indoor Centre in Launceston.

These clubs and players will have one week to nominate themselves for the program with nominations needing to be received at Cricket Tasmania by no later than 5pm Thursday 22 November.

Hurricanes Women’s Head Coach Salliann Briggs will go to Launceston to oversee these trials at the NTCA Indoor Centre to make her selection of one female.

So this is a great opportunity for female players to attend and show their cricket skills.

The chosen cricketer will join the Hurricanes’ WBBL squad from Monday 3 December until their home game against the Perth Scorchers on Tuesday 18 December at Hobart’s Blundstone Arena.

They will then re-join the Hurricanes women’s squad for their two games at Launceston’s UTAS Stadium on Sunday 30 and Monday 31 December against the Brisbane Heat as well.

Male ‘Northern Rookie’ Selection Process – Hurricanes Men’s Head Coach Adam Griffith is currently working with Cricket Tasmania on the selection process now.

So we encourage you to get involved when the invitation comes, and we wish everyone best of luck in becoming our 2018-19 Hurricanes Foundation male and female Northern Rookies.

Emma Manix-Geeves from Riverside and Jarrod Freeman from Mowbray (pictured) were our 2017-18 Northern Rookies last season, who mixed it with the full Hurricanes teams – Emma with our women’s WBBL|03 squad and Jarrod with our men’s BBL|07 squad.

Both players now have Cricket Tasmania contracts this season with Jarrod on a Tasmanian Tigers Rookie Contract, while Emma has a full State Contract and was a member of the U18 National Squad and Australian Indigenous Squad that toured England.
