Cricket Tasmania is proud to announce the new signing of Gurinder Sandhu from Cricket New South Wales on a two-year deal starting this 2018-19 Season.
The tall right arm fast bowler will join the resurgent Tasmanian Tigers, who stormed into this year’s Sheffield Shield Final, after playing for the New South Wales Blues since 2012-13.
The 24-year-old who was born in Blacktown, New South Wales, came to prominence after representing Australia in their Under-19 cricket team for the 2012 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup where he took ten wickets across six games.
Sandhu went on to make his senior international debut for Australia in a One Day International against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in January 2015, before playing against England in Hobart later that week, recording the best bowling figures of 2/49 in the series.
Gurinder made his senior domestic debut for the Sydney Thunder in their 2012-13 Big Bash League season against the Sydney Sixers in December 2012, and also made his List A (January 2013) and First-Class (March 2013) cricket debuts for New South Wales during the same Australian summer.
In March 2013, Sandhu was voted the Australian Cricketers' Association Player of the Month and was also the Steve Waugh Medallist as the NSW Blues Player of the Year, in a breakout season where he played for the Australia A team against India as well as the Prime Minister’s XI against the West Indies.
He played five matches in NSW’s successful 2015-16 Matador BBQs One Day Cup campaign grabbing nine wickets at 13.55, including the best figures of 4/29. This followed his 2013-14 Ryobi One Day Cup performances, when he collected eleven wickets at 28.09.
Gurinder also represented the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL during 2015 as one of their overseas players.
Sandhu is an excellent high-quality replacement for departing Tigers quick Andrew Fekete who is returning home to Victoria to spend more time with his family.
Sandhu's 194cm height gives him impressive bounce and he can swing the ball both ways.
We welcome Gurinder Sandhu to the Tasmanian Tigers State Squad.
