It is the number one priority for Cricket Tasmania that we keep our players, staff and all members of the Tasmanian cricketing community informed and aware of what is going on during this difficult time.

Below is information regarding all cancellations and restrictions involving Tasmanian cricket that have been put in place in response to the growing pandemic.

 

Detail First Cricket Tasmania Premier League and Community Cricket

In accordance with Cricket Australia’s recommendations, Cricket Tasmania has today determined that the Detail First Cricket Tasmania Premier League season will be abandoned effective immediately.

Cricket Tasmania is consulting with the Premier League Committee and club presidents to decide final standings on this season’s table and will make an announcement on who the Premiers will be in coming days.

Cricket Tasmania is also advising the relevant Tasmanian Community Cricket Associations that there is an expectation that they follow suit with their own competitions and has provided advice to support local decision making.

2019/20 Marsh Sheffield Shield

Cricket Australia have made the decision to cancel the final round of the 2019/20 Marsh Sheffield Shield in response to the growing corona virus pandemic.

This impacts the Tasmanian Tigers’ match against Victoria that was due to start this Thursday at the CitiPower Centre in Melbourne.

Cricket Australia have also announced the cancellation of the Marsh Sheffield Shield Final, which follows a recent announcement that the remaining last round would be cancelled. As a result, New South Wales have been declared champions after leading the competition through nine rounds.

 

Gillette One Day International Series

Cricket Australia have made the decision to postpone the Gillette One Day International series as the New Zealand team fly home prior to the implementation of tighter travel restrictions for those arriving in New Zealand which came into effect at midnight on Sunday.

This follows the announcement that the series would be played without crowds present.
 
The second and third matches of this series, including Friday’s ODI at Blundstone Arena in Hobart, will not be going ahead.

 

Cricket Tasmania Awards Night

Cricket Tasmania has made the decision that the Cricket Tasmania Awards Night, which incorporates the Ricky Ponting Medal, will be postponed until further notice.

This decision also flows to the Rodwell and Fazackerley Medal dinner for grade cricket, and the Community Cricket Awards.

In light of current events, Cricket Tasmania feels the decision is the best one for all involved.
