Tasmania have suffered a double injury blow in Brisbane, with two of their front-line bowlers leaving the field late yesterday afternoon.

Jackson Bird strained his hamstring and left the field immediately, leaving Tom Rogers to complete his over.

He was followed by Gabe Bell only five overs later, who hurt his foot while bowling the final over of the day. Captain George Bailey deciding to bring himself on to bowl the one remaining ball which was left in the day’s play.

Both bowlers will undergo scans to determine the extent of their injuries.

It is a cruel blow for both bowlers but particularly for Bird, with the Australian Test squad due to depart for South Africa in less than a week. A decision on his availability for that tour is yet to be made.
