New Tigers recruit Alex Hartley is eyeing a strong summer in Tasmanian colours in a bid to return to England's side as their number one left-arm orthodox spinner.

25 year-old Hartley was apart of their ICC World Cup-winning side last year, before being named in the ICC Women's ODI Team of the Year in December.

However, a strong Kia Super League tournament for fellow left-armers Kirstie Gordon and Linsey Smith saw Hartley pushed out of the touring party to the West Indies for the World T20 which begins in Guyana on Saturday.

"I've obviously got a point to prove, having missed out on the World T20 squad," said Hartley.

"There's a bit of fire in my belly about that and I'm keen to show what I can do here and get back into that England side."

Hartley - who averages 21 with the ball in ODI cricket, having taken 27 wickets in 18 matches thus far in her career, is looking forward to adapting her bowling to some different conditions after the World Cup was in her home country.

"The three months ahead will provide a great opportunity for me to bowl on some nicer wickets and adapt my bowling to these conditions," she said.

Hartley will play the two imminent WNCL matches before training full-time with the Hobart Hurricanes throughout the rebel WBBL|04 season, which means she'll catch up with their new signing, Heather Knight, in the near future.

"Heather loves it out here, it's a place she loves coming back to and now I understand why."

Hartley arrived in Hobart last Monday and has immediately settled into the squad and loves her new surrounds.

"It's a beautiful ground (the TCA) and a beautiful city," said Hartley at her media opportunity this morning.

"The squad has a fantastic set of girls and I can't wait to get started tomorrow."

The Tigers Women will play Queensland on Friday and South Australia on Saturday, both at Hobart's TCA Ground from 10am. Entry is free.

Cricket Tasmania Members will be treated to a Meet & Greet with Australian players on the eve on next Sunday's ODI with South Africa, and it's not too late to sign up for the summer!
