Play Cricket Week celebrated in Tasmania today!

Cricket Tasmania visited schools in all parts of Tasmania today as part of Play Cricket Week which celebrates the beginning of the Australian Cricket Summer and the launch of community cricket in the state for the 2024-25 season.

Following a record-breaking year of participation in Woolworths Cricket Blast program statewide, Cricket Tasmania aims to continue to increase cricket participation in all regions of Tasmania.

Female and male members of the Tasmanian Tigers and Hobart Hurricanes programs, and our Community Cricket team will be running clinics at various schools around the state, with a particular focus on the All-Girls Colour Blast.

Lauren Hepburn, Participation Growth Lead at Cricket Tasmania discussed Cricket Tasmania’s excitement to be extending All-Girls Colour Blast to girls in Northern Tasmania.

After the success of the All-Girls Colour Blast programs in the South last season, which saw over 120 Girls participate in each of the two programs offered, we are excited to expand the offer to Northern Tasmania this season.

“With the addition of the programs in the North, we are hoping to attract close to 400 girls this season.

The program is designed to introduce Girls to cricket through a mixture of fun, non-traditional and traditional activities, including water balloons, water pistols and a Colour run!” explained Hepburn.

Colour Blast programs will be held in each region during the upcoming October and January school holiday periods, and involve two 2-hour sessions across the two days.
