Newly appointed Coach Adam Griffith yesterday spoke to the media around his first few weeks as Coach as well as confirming that players Dominic Michael, Cameron Wheatley and Ryan Lees will not be offered a contract for the 2017-18 season.

”It’s probably one of the hardest parts of the job but you’ve got to be open and honest with them,” Griffith said.

He confirmed Michael was heading back to Queensland for family reasons.

“The other two guys unfortunately didn’t really have a crack at it with cricket in Tasmania, but just because they haven’t got contracts doesn’t mean they won’t be available for selection moving forward and we want to keep developing them as talented Tasmanian cricketers.  The door isn’t closed.

“Wickets and runs are the currency and if those guys have them on the board they will come under the umbrella of selection.”

Griffith said it had so far been a tough and cold pre-season in which he was using Tasmania’s natural assets to assist in player development over the winter.

“We’ve had team-building activities, some hiking and bushwalking and putting them in conditions they are not comfortable in and seeing how they respond to that. We are challenging them so hopefully they learn about themselves so when they are in uncomfortable positions on the ground they can draw on those experiences.”

“Most of the group I was really happy with, there were a couple there who were disappointing, but they’ve got that message loud and clear.”

Griffith admitted drawing up the team’s 2017-18 contract list with “non-binding” discussion has been somewhat complicated with the MOU between the ACA and CA not signed, however he was confident everything was being done to ensure the Tigers have a strong balanced list to announce in the near future.
