Get ready for the skills and sporting spirit on show at Polliebash17, the fixture of the year as the Tasmanian Politicians take on Tasmania's media in a battle of the titans at Blundstone Arena this Friday [10 March].

Elise Archer, co-convenor of the Tasmanian Parliamentary Friends of Cricket has been a long-time supporter of grass roots through to high performance cricket in Tasmania and relishes to chance to pad up against the media.

“Excitement for this match has been building ever since the media won in controversial circumstances last year. The MP’s were forced to bat in tropical stormy conditions all night, the journos at times had up to 15 fielders taking selfies of themselves out in the middle before rain intervened and forced the second innings inside to a smooth carpet wicket with air conditioning. This year we’re ready for them!”

“It should be a good contest, Mark Shelton has been in the nets for weeks practising his cover drive so if he gets going the media have no chance. He’s a handy bowler too and Brent Costelloe has already admitted he doesn’t want to face him.”

“Speak Up Stay Chatty and the Fayyaz Sumbal Foundation are both great causes and I encourage everyone to come and support the event.”

Cassy O’Connor, Bryan Green, and Premier Will Hodgman are confirmed to join Elise Archer in the Pollies XI whilst reporters Brent Costelloe and Katelyn Barry will be trophy hunting for the Media XI.

Brent Costelloe is determined to see the Media XI win not just the trophy again, but also the cricket fans.

“We’ve already won the popularity contest because they are politicians”.

“11 journos and 11 politicians means this could well be the most dishonest game of cricket ever played!”

“I haven’t forgotten Mark Shelton clean bowling me last year so I’m looking forward to settling that score.”

“I’m told the Premier has looked proppy running the streets of Hobart of late so we’ll look to exploit his fitness”.

“In all seriousness, it’s a great concept  and to be able to support fantastic charities like Speak Up Stay Chatty and the Fayyaz Sumbal Foundation makes a fun filled night even more special. “

The public is most welcome to attend. Please enter via the Derwent Street Gate. All donations will be gratefully accepted.

Our Charities

We are delighted to announce that Polliebash17 will continue to support two important charities, Speak Up Stay Chatty and the Fayyaz Sumbal Foundation.

The Fayyaz Sumbal Foundation is a joint Australian-Pakistani initiative aimed at promoting peace through our countries’ mutual love of cricket. Since 2013, the Foundation has worked in Pakistan and Australia to provide financial support for the families of police officers killed and wounded in the line of duty.

SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY works to help prevent suicide by spreading the message that nothing is so bad that you can’t talk about it.
