South Hobart Sandy Bay have been crowned champions of the Cricket Tasmania Vacation Under 18 T20 competition with a 20 run win over Kingborough at Queenborough Oval.

Both sides were undefeated through the roster matches but it was the Sharks who posted 110 from their 20 over to prove ultimately too strong for the Knights who scored 90 from their allotment.

South Hobart Sandy Bay won the toss and batted but were in early bother with Kingborough fast bowler Kyle Wisniewski involved in each of the first three wickets, one as a bowler, one run out and a catch to have the home team 3-15 after five overs.

The rebuilding process was led by Alexander Wolff and Player of the Match Zac Bury who combined for a 26 run stand which gave the Sharks a platform to score 31 from their last four overs. Bury’s 29 from 40 balls included two boundaries and was the top score for the innings.

Wisniewski claimed a late wicket to finish with 2-19 from his four overs and five wickets for the week.

The Kingborough run chase got off to a sluggish start and was 1-21 from seven overs with captain Mitchell Backhouse and keeper Zac Chapman at the crease.

Backhouse was the leading run scorer for the tournament with 160 runs and the key to the run chase but was smartly caught and bowled buy Perry Mannering for 26 from 32 deliveries sparking a collapse that saw the Knights lose 7-40 and fall short in the chase.

Sharks spinner Jack Green was the chief destroyer with 4-12 including two wickets in the last two balls of the match.

Hobart Hurricanes Captain and PKF Tasmanian Tigers Vice Captain Xavier Doherty was on hand to present the medals to South Hobart Sandy Bay.
