Tasmanian Tigers Head Coach Adam Griffith says he’s looking forward to seeing how the Tigers fare in their first JLT One-Day Cup match in Perth on Monday.
Griffith said although weather in Hobart had impacted on the team’s preparations slightly, the players were ready to take on New South Wales to open their campaign.
“It’s really exciting. We’ve been working hard over the last six months to get ourselves ready and we can’t wait to get over to Perth and play our first game,” he said.
“We’ve had a little bit of rain in Hobart which we’ve struggled with. But we’ve had three centre wicket sessions at Twin Ovals in Kingston which has been excellent and the ground staff at Blundstone Arena have been great in getting the nets up for us.”
Griffith said new players travelling to Perth brought a fresh energy and enthusiasm to the Tigers setup.
Charlie Wakim and Tom Rogers have come from interstate to sign with the Tigers, while Tasmanian young gun Riley Meredith is also part of the Tigers’ JLT One-Day Cup squad.
“The fact that we haven't got an XI locked in yet is one of the most exciting things," Griffith said.
“We’ve got so many new faces in the program - both local products and some recruits from interstate - they’re all really keen to show what they can do.
“There’s a couple of spots which are up for grabs and as a coach and selectors that’s a really good thing for your squad.”
With Tim Paine, unavailable on national duties for at least the first half of the tournament, Griffith said the selection committee was undecided about whether Jake Doran or Ben Dunk would take the gloves for the Tigers in Perth.
“We’ll have a look at Jake but we’ve got Ben Dunk in the squad as well, so we’ll pick a ‘keeper which best fits into the XI we pick for that first game.”
Tasmania’s first JLT One-Day Cup game against New South Wales starts at 12pm AEST on Monday.
