Bell set to Debut in Final match
The Tasmanian Tigers will play their last Sheffield Shield match of the season starting tomorrow at Blundstone Arena when they take on South Australia from 10.30am.
After a disappointing Shield campaign selectors have made some changes to the squad that were defeated last week by the Bulls, bringing young Gabe Bell and Caleb Jewell into the line-up and Jordan Silk off the back of his impressive Futures League performance where he made 161.
James Faulkner has been ruled out of the squad due to knee soreness and will focus on some rest and recovery to ensure any long-term damage is prevented. Jake Hancock and Cameron Stevenson have also been omitted for this match.
Tasmanian Chairman of Selectors Michael Farrell said overall the Sheffield Shield season has been disappointing, however said games like the one starting tomorrow present the perfect opportunity for everyone to finish the season on a high.
“Gabe Bell has had a very consistent season at both Grade and Futures League and has been rewarded for this. He has steadily improved over a number of years and is ready for the challenge of first-class cricket.
“Caleb Jewell has worked diligently at his batting this season and has played well against the Dukes ball in the second half of the season. Caleb has had exposure to first-class cricket early in the season and late last season, so knows what is required at the level,” Farrell said.
The match will start at 10.30am and will be streamed live at cricket.com.au with the 12th man to be announced on the morning of the match.
