Tasmanian Tigers bowler Jackson Bird has been ruled out of Australia’s Test tour to South Africa with a hamstring strain.

Bird sustained the injury on the second day of Tasmania’s Sheffield Shield match against Queensland last week, with Australian captain Steve Smith confirming Bird’s withdrawal this morning.

South Australian Chadd Sayers has been called into the squad as his replacement, with the first Test beginnings on March 1 in Durban.

Wicketkeeper Tim Paine is now the only Tasmanian player in the Test squad, having been rested from the last round of Sheffield Shield games to freshen up for the four Test series.
