Cricket Tasmania’s Statewide One-Day competition the Kookaburra Cup reaches semi-final stage this Sunday.
In its 26th year, the Kookaburra Cup finals see the top two performed CT Premier League sides in One-Day matches meet the Grand Finalists from the Greater Northern competition in cross-over semi-finals.
Kingborough, which won the Kookaburra Cup for the first time last season will meet Devonport at Kingston Twin Ovals. However, Kingborough will be without key players Mark Divin, Brady Jones, Chris Bury and Beau Webster who have Tasmanian 2nd XI commitments. Ashton May will captain the side in Divin’s absence, and Jackson Bird returns after his recent stint with the Melbourne Stars. Devonport which is also on top of the Cricket North West ladder and won the Cricket North West Twenty20 title, will be relying on Tony Underwood and Brent Mullett with the bat, along with all-rounders Scott Mitchell and Luke Marshall to challenge the Knights.
Riverside hosts Clarence in a clash between two clubs that have not tasted success in the Kookaburra Cup competition since the late 1980’s. Riverside will be looking for captain Matthew Shipp, youngster Zac Towns and import Lee Dixon to post a competitive score against the Roos’ strong batting line up which includes the likes of the Hurricanes’ Jon Wells, skipper Shannon Tubb, coach Scott Kremerskothen and Wade Irvine.
Play commences at 11am, with the winners of the Semi-Finals progress to the Grand Final on Sunday 12th February.
